The American Ancestry of James Butler Bonham

from the arrival of George Bonham and his son Nicholas in 1635

This chart was extrapolated from a similar, but more comprehensive presentation I have developed based primarily on the work of Elmer Hazie, but including some minor corrections and additional information as it became available. The genealogy , of course continues to be a work in progress, but everyone interested in the Bonham family owes a great deal to Mr. Hazie. I was fortunate to have met him in California some forty years ago and corresponded with him thereafter. He certainly stimulated what for me has been a lifelong interest. As he liked to point out ... which is clear from his research ... virtually all the Bonhams in America are descended from George and Nicholas, and most of them can also trace their roots to the union of Hezekiah and Ann Hunt, those busy people who created all of the "iahs" as Elmer used to call them. Of course the descendants of that prolific family have now multiplied to the point where to sort them out defies even the most valiant efforts. But I hope this graphic presentation ... focused as it is on James Butler Bonham's line ... will be helpful. And for those whose interest extends to subsequent generations and to some of the other "iahs", I will be pleased to share whatever information I have.

Elmer B. Hazie descended from the second of the "iahs", Nehemiah (b. ca 1703).
